FAQs

We know these are kind of the worst… but just in case, by some miracle, it does help, here’s our obligatory list of FAQs:

On what social media platforms can I use your tracking system?

Currently, Areto works on Twitter and Instagram. That said, we’re always innovating and adopting new features and platforms. For the latest news, sign up to our newsletter!

How does the AI work?

🤓 Great question. For every social media account that the software follows, our sentiment-sensing AI (natural language processing) system “reads” and analyzes each comment sent to that account, and scores it based on the likelihood people would consider it a positive or negative/hateful comment.

If you’re using Areto's automated response system, then the software will automatically respond to messages that are within your positive or negative “trigger” threshold. (Not to worry - we’ll help you figure out the right threshold!)

Can I control what messages the automated response system sends out and how often?

Absolutely! The program sends out messages in your brand voice from a library of pre-written responses that you’ve curated and uploaded into our system. We’ll work with you to set the right sentiment level to trigger the responses based on your goals and each social media platform’s terms of use.

Can Areto track languages other than English?

Yes! We can track sentiment in Arabic, Chinese , Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Hinglish, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

We do it all! We track engagement and sentiment metrics and trends inclusive of hate speech but not exclusively hate speech. That means you’ll see who and what topics are trending, your community’s engagement and sentiment timeline as well as metrics around hate speech.

Do I need permission to track specific people using your software?

Yes...and no! It’s important that to maintain good relationships with the social media platforms, we work within their terms of use when we deploy our software on their systems. So while Twitter allows for easy tracking and data collection without seeking permission from an account holder, Instagram is an “opt-in”application--so each account holder needs to agree for you to track their accounts.

How does the software impact freedom of expression?

We designed this software to help you better support people in real time, and help you understand, grow and connect with your fanbase. The software doesn’t block or mute accounts or delete posts, but rather sends supportive messages directly to someone who receives harmful comments to change the conversation and set the tone of the community. We know that engaging with a bully doesn’t make the bully go away, and we don’t want to play a game of whack-a-troll. So our software focuses on allyship, and building and growing better, more supportive communities.

Can I track, respond to and collect data based on different types of hate speech?

Yes! Depending on the comment’s language, we can analyze things like threats, identity attacks and profanity. In English, we can also analyze comments for sexual explicit language.
